frozen trout and char fillets thawing in sink
Articles

What’s the best way to thaw frozen fish?

We have two easy ways at the farm, and it just depends on how much time you have!

  • FRIDGE – It takes about 8 hours if you toss them in the fridge. You can do this in the morning or the night before.
  • SINK – You can thaw in 15 minutes in the sink under cold water. Just put them in the sink, and fill with enough water to cover. If they float, just weigh them down with a bowl.

You can do both ways directly in the vac-pack bag, and just recycle it once it’s thawed!
Whatever you do, avoid using warm water or the microwave. Both of them pre-cook your fish, and give it a rubbery texture!

Thawing them slowly may give you the best texture, but we haven’t found much a difference if we use cold water in the sink!
